§ 70. Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions he has had on chemical weapons in the light of the United Kingdom's chairmanship of the chemical weapons committee of the conference of chemical weapons and disarmament.
§ Mr. RentonWe confer regularly on arms control topics with allies and in contacts with other countries. We have emphasised the high priority to be given to the early conclusion of a verifiable global ban on all chemical weapons. We very much hope that United Kingdom chairmanship of the Committee on Chemical Weapons at the conference on disarmament will enable substantial progress to be made in the negotiations this year.
