§ 89. Mr. Nicholas Brownasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on Her Majesty's Government's policy towards the development of Ascension Island.
§ Mr. EggarThe dependent territory of Ascension island is an important communications centre and a vital link between the United Kingdom and the Falkland Islands. It consists of a largely barren island peak of182W volcanic rock and has no indigenous inhabitants. Normal development criteria do not therefore apply and the territory receives no aid from us.
