Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Paymaster General if he will publish a table showing the rate of unemployment among the following standard groups of people as recorded in the latest available general household survey together with any other available information on the rate of unemployment by social or employment class: professional, employers and managers, intermediate non-manual, skilled manual, own account non-professional, semi-skilled manual, personal service and unskilled manual.

Information from the general household survey on unemployment by socio-economic group has been published in tables 7.28 and 7.29 "General Household Survey 1983" which is available in the Library. The following table gives figures for the groups requested from the 1984 labour force survey.

The figures exclude 1,064,000 unemployed people who either had never had a job, or who had left their last job more than three years ago and were not asked about their previous occupation.
