HC Deb 04 February 1986 vol 91 cc128-9W
Mr. Bowen Wells

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the policy of Her Majesty's Government towards the eighth replenishment of the International Development Association.

Mr. Raison

We want to see a substantial replenishment, and we hope that the International Development Association will thereby be able to continue its important support for longer-term investment and economic reform in the poorest countries.

Mr. Bowen Wells

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what was the outcome of the meeting of the International Development Association in Paris on January 27 and 28; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Raison

Discussion at the meeting covered the possible size of the eighth replenishment, the allocation of resources to different purposes and groups of recipients, and the terms to be applied to credits. Discussions will resume in Washington in April.

Mr. Bowen Wells

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs who represented the United Kingdom at the International Development Association deputies' meeting in Paris on 27 and 28 January.

Mr. Raison

The United Kingdom was represented by Mr. J. L. F. Buist, the under secretary in the Overseas Development Association responsible for multilateral aid.
