HL Deb 03 February 1986 vol 470 c1001WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the present state of exchanges under current agreements between the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union in relation to oceanography and fisheries.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Young)

There are no bilateral agreements between the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union in the fields of oceanography and fisheries. Contacts and exchanges do occur in various international oceanographic fora such as the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, the International Hydrographic Organisation and the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea. Under the Common Fisheries Policy fisheries agreements with third countries are concluded by the European Community. There are no such agreements with the Soviet Union.
