HC Deb 03 February 1986 vol 91 c54W
Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) in the sale of Middleton hall conference centre, Midlothian, what sum of money from the sale he has decided to retain; what sum of money from the sale he has decided to allocate to the Scottish National Camps Association Limited; and what conditions have been placed on the Scottish National Camps Association Limited by him regarding the future use of this money;

(2) how many formal offers were received for Middleton hall conference centre in Midlothian; who was the purchaser; what was the agreed selling price; and what conditions were imposed on the sale by the purchaser.

Mr. Allan Stewart

I have not imposed any special conditions on the sale of Middleton hall apart from compliance with the rules relating to the sale of property purchased with the with of public funds, amounting in this case to some £220,000. The Government have a right to repayment of this sum and the Scottish National Camps Association has a right to retain the balance without conditions. Detailed questions relating to the sale are the responsibility of the association.
