asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the average period of custodial remand for female custodial prisoners in England and Wales for the years 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985.

a table showing the number of deaths which have occurred in Great Britain in the latest calendar year connected with present civil unrest in Northern Ireland; and how many of those deaths were caused by action taken by the police and by each of the known paramilitary groups, respectively.

Mr. Mellor

The available information for England and Wales relates to all homicides attributed to acts of terrorism connected with Northern Ireland and is published in table 4.5 of "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales, 1984 (Cmnd. 9621). Five such deaths were recorded in 1984, and provisional information is that there were no such deaths in 1985. I understand from my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland that there were no such deaths in Scotland in 1984 or 1985.
