HC Deb 03 February 1986 vol 91 c65W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what reference is made to European union in the European Act adopted by the intergovernmental conference.

Mrs. Chalker

References to European union are made in the preamble to the single European Act in the context of the Stuttgart solemn declaration, which identified European union as a process of deepening and broadening existing European activities. Neither the title of the Act nor its operative clauses refer to union.

Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he expects copies of the English text of the European Act to be available to hon. Members.

Mrs. Chalker

Copies of the text were placed in the Library and Vote Office on 30 January.

Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs why he has withdrawn the reserve on the European Act; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Chalker

I refer my hon. Friend to the statement I made to the House on 30 January at column 1106.
