HC Deb 03 February 1986 vol 91 c44W
41. Mr. Soames

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on his Department's guidelines for security at British Airports Authority establishments.

Mr. Michael Spicer

My Department gives detailed security advice to all United Kingdom airports and to airlines operating in the United Kingdom and directions have been given under the Aviation Security Act 1982 to airports and airlines on the screening of passengers and their baggage and the reconciliation of passengers with their checked-in hold baggage. Special security measures apply to flights subject to a particular threat. United Kingdom security standards comply with the provisions of annex 17 of the Chicago convention and are continuously reviewed in consultation with the aviation industry's representatives on the national aviation security committee.
