HC Deb 03 February 1986 vol 91 cc26-7W
Dr. Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement about the circumstances of the discharge of 440 kg of uranium From British Nuclear Fuels Limited, Sellafield into the Irish sea on 23 January; whether any investigation of the circumstances will be undertaken by Government Departments; and if any additional environmental monitoring is planned following this recent discharge.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

I refer the hon. Member to the answer given to my hon. Friend the Member for Solihull (Mr. Taylor) on 31 January at column652. The information available so far suggests no need to extend the existing comprehensive environmental monitoring programme.
