HC Deb 03 February 1986 vol 91 cc43-4W
36. Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to improve the A46 Lincoln to Newark road.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Other than bypasses for Lincoln, opened in December 1985, and Newark, which we hope to start building towards the end of 1987, there are no major plans for the A46.

Predicted traffic volumes do not justify upgrading to dual carriageway. Studies have identified some possible long-term improvements which may include widening to provide greater opportunity for overtaking. Sites with accident records will continue to be given priority in determining immediate improvement proposals.
