HC Deb 19 December 1986 vol 107 cc776-7W
Mr. Chris Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether the safety modifications for the Sellafield nuclear plant recommended by the nuclear installations inspectorate will have any effect on the capability of British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. at Sellafield to ensure the processing of nuclear material for the United Kingdom nuclear weapons programme.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

This is difficult to judge at present as the report by the nuclear installations inspectorate has only just been published. However, I should expect BNFL, after studying the report, to notify the Ministry of Defence if any of the activities, which it carries out for us, were likely to be affected.
