§ Mr. Kirkwoodasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a list showing for each licensed nuclear site the calculated critical group exposures associated with (a) actual radioactive discharges in the last year and (b) 100 per cent. of authorised discharges calculated either on the basis of numerical limits given in the authorisation or on the basis of the maximum possible discharges where numerical limits do not apply.
§ Mr. AncramAssessments of critical group exposure for each site are published by the Scottish Development Department in statistical bulletins which are placed in the Library. Bulletin No. 4/1984 contains results up to the end of 1983. The results for 1984 and 1985 will be published shortly.
All nuclear site authorisations are being reviewed over a three-year period and the new certificates being issued will impose numerical limits on the quantities of radioactivity discharged. As part of the public consultations in connection with this review, estimates will be provided of the level of exposure which would arise from discharging radionuclides up to the limits proposed.
