HC Deb 19 December 1986 vol 107 c752W
Mr. McLoughlin

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the national parks in the United Kingdom and indicate the number of people who serve on the boards of each of them, showing how many of them live within the area of each respective national park.

Mr. Waldegrave

The figures for the seven English national parks are as follows:

Members Number living within Park
Dartmoor 21 3
Exmoor 21 3
Lake District 30 12
Northumberland 27 0
North York Moors 27 7
Peak District 34 11
Yorkshire Dales 24 6

There are presently two vacancies on the Yorkshire Dales committee and one on the Dartmoor committee. The three Welsh national parks are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
