HC Deb 19 December 1986 vol 107 c832W
Mr. Hancock

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many garages operating Ministry of Transport test centres have lost their licence to operate in the last five years.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

360 testing stations lost MOT authorisation in this period. The figures are:

Number
1985 80
1984 107
1983 90
1982 37
1981 46

Authorisation may be withdrawn for substandard testing of vehicles, for a major breach of an examiner's conditions of appointment or because an examiner has received a criminal conviction. Examiners have a right to make representations against withdrawal of authorisation.
