HC Deb 19 December 1986 vol 107 c723W
Mr. Merchant

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) to what factors he attributes differences between the examinations attainment of Catholic and non-Catholic comprehensive schools;

(2) what information is available to his Department about the comparative achievements in terms of numbers of pupils achieving five or more O-levels of Catholic and non-Catholic comprehensive schools, respectively in (a) Newcastle upon Tyne and (b) England and Wales as a whole.

Mrs. Rumbold

Information is not available centrally: the Department's examination statistics are not classified by the religious denomination of the school.
