HC Deb 19 December 1986 vol 107 c719W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the length, cost or estimated cost, start and finish date for the Newbridge, Chirk Gresford bypasses; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Work on the Newbridge bypass and Whitehurst link (3.1 miles) is scheduled to start before the end of December 1987, subject to the completion of remaining statutory procedures and the availability of resources. The estimated cost is approximately £12 million at current prices. Work on the Chirk bypass (1.6 miles in Wales, 0.4 miles in England) is planned to start between January 1988 and December 1990, subject to the completion of statutory procedures and the availability of resources. The estimated cost of the Welsh section is approximately £8 million at current prices. Work started on the Gresford-Pulford bypass in early December. The Welsh section is 4.5 miles (total length 6.3 miles) and the estimated cost of that section is approximately £20 million at current prices. The work is expected to take two and a half years to complete.
