§ Mr. Douglas HoggThe research study by Mr. Dix and Mr. Layzell on "Road Users and the Police", carried out on behalf of the Police Foundation, was a small scale 559W exploratory study of the impact of road traffic law enforcement on police public relations. The study suggested that contacts between the police and the public in this context could have a favourable effect on public perceptions of the police, and emphasised the importance of the use of discretion by police officers.
