HC Deb 17 December 1986 vol 107 c536W
Mr. Richard Page

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he plans to offer further aid to Jordan following the launching of its new five-year plan and its programme for the occupied territories.

Mr. Chris Patten

We have offered a new loan of £10 million, on concessionary terms and tied to the provision of British goods and services, as a contribution to the new Jordan five-year plan. The finance will be spent on capital projects to be agreed between our two Governments.

In support of the Jordanian Government's objectives to assist the economic and social development of the occupied territories we propose to increase our aid to the West Bank and Gaza to £5 million on grant terms over the next five years. Half of this will be channelled through Jordanian institutions. The finance would be available for technical co-operation, training, British equipment and some elements of local costs.
