HC Deb 16 December 1986 vol 107 cc476-7W
Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis showing all oral and verbal recommendations by his officers for reward payments from private sources to Mr. Roy Garner; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis as to whether any new oral or verbal recommendations for a reward payment from private sources to Mr. Roy Garner have been made by his officers; and if he will make a statement;

(3) if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis about the alleged bribe and death threat made by a senior police officer to Superintendent Gerald Wiltshire, and the threat to the career prospects of two police officers under Superintendent Wiltshire's supervision and as to what action was taken in response to these matters when reported; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

No. The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis has appointed the chief constable of South Yorkshire to investigate the allegations made in the "World in Action" TV programme on 3 November 1986. The investigation is being supervised by the Police Complaints Authority. The Commissioner has stated that Mr. Wright will have full access to all documents relating to earlier investigations. It would not be right for me to seek to intervene while the matter is under investigation.
