asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress has been made towards the setting up of a trust to manage the Croxteth hall and country park in Liverpool; and if he will make a statement about the future of the property.

My right hon. Friend has appointed Mr. Philip Carter to the Merseyside residuary body with special responsibility for Croxteth hall and park. His task will be to set up and become chairman of a trust to take over responsibility for Croxteth from the Merseyside residuary body.

My noble Friend has today visited Croxteth with Mr. Carter and the chairman of the residuary body to discuss the main tasks which lie ahead. These will be to commission a long term management, development and financial plan and to appoint managing agents with the necessary expertise to run the estate; to recommend a programme of capital works; to discuss possible financial support with national and local bodies concerned with the heritage and the private sector; and to consider and

A reassessment of asset values, described in note 1 to the current cost supplementary statements in the authorities' account for 1983–84, resulted in generally higher asset values. These higher values were taken into account in setting financial targets for 1984–85. The targets set for 1984–85 averaged about 1 per cent., for 1985–86 about 1.4 per cent., for 1986–87 about 1.6 per cent. and for next year about 1.9 per cent.
