HC Deb 12 December 1986 vol 107 cc236-7W
Mr. Campbell-Savours

asked the Prime Minister in what form and on what authority, approval was given by Her Majesty's Government to Mr. Chapman Pincher or his publishers for the publication of the book "Their Trade is Treachery".

The Prime Minister

It would be inappropriate for me to comment on matters which may arise in the proceedings concerning the Peter Wright case in Australia while those proceedings continue. I also intend to follow the precedent set by previous Prime Ministers of not commenting on security matters.

Mr. Marlow

asked the Prime Minister if, as part of the security briefings provided from time to time to the Leader of the Opposition, she will supply him with such information as is available to Her Majesty's Government's lawyers about the progress of the Wright case in Australia; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

I have confirmed that, as far as this side of the House is concerned, the normal courtesies on security matters will continue to be observed. The contents of such exchanges must remain confidential.
