HC Deb 12 December 1986 vol 107 cc313-4W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will identify the project extent and cost of the town being built by his Department on Mynydd Epynt in Powys, for the purpose of training in fighting in built up areas; whether he anticipates this site being used by troops from overseas; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Freeman

The training complex to be constructed at the Sennybridge training area (Mynydd Epynt) comprises some 32 building representing a part of a village. The buildings will be uninhabitable shells constructed specifically to meet an essential military training requirement. The local planning authority has raised no objection at the outline or detailed stages to our proposals and construction is now expected to start in March 1987 at a cost of some £3 million. There are no current plans for foreign forces to use it.
