HC Deb 12 December 1986 vol 107 c302W
Dr. Godman

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the amount of money paid to companies under the Industry Acts in Greenock and Port Glasgow since 1983; and how many jobs were either created or defended as a result.

Mr. Lang

In the period between 1 January 1983 and 30 November 1986, total payments of regional selective assistance (RSA) to companies in the Greenock and Port Glasgow parliamentary constituency amounted to £6 million. Comprehensive information on payments of regional development grant (RUG) on a constituency basis is not available. However, since 1 January 1983, payments of RDG exceeding £25,000 to firms in the Greenock and Port Glasgow employment local office area amounted to over £28.4 million. Information on jobs created or safeguarded in the period since 1983 as a result of awards of RDG and RSA and on payments for other forms of assistance under the Industry Acts is not readily available.
