Mr. Terry Davis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list all the official delegations or Government-sponsored individuals or parties from Indonesia who have visited the United Kingdom since January 1985, stating in each case the purpose of the visit.

The principal visits have been as follows:

April 1985

  • Admiral Romly, Chief of Naval Staff, and party; to attend commisioning of an ex-RN frigate sold to Indonesia.
  • Professor Sukardji, Director-General of Higher Education; to visit academic institutions.
  • Mr. Umar Ali, Secretary-General, Department of Trade; to discuss trade co-operation with United Kingdom firms and officials.

May 1985

  • General Supardi, Secretary-General, Department of Defence; for discussions on defence equipment matters.

June 1985

  • Mr. Abdul Kadir, Secretary-General, Ministry of Information; to visit BBC, COI, British Council.

July 1985

  • General Surono, Minister for Political and Security Affairs, and Professor Habihie, Minister of Research and Technology; for talks on industrial co-operation and signature of science and technology agreement.
  • Air Chief Marshal Sukardi, Chief of Air Staff; to visit United Kingdom defence manufacturers.

August 1985

  • General Awaloedin, Chairman of Indonesian Government Social Insurance Agency; to study United Kingdom social services and training facilities.
  • Miss Simandjuntak, Chief Librarian, Indonesian Parliament; to study parliamentary and other library services.

October 1985

  • Rear Admiral Kasenda; to attend the commissioning of an ex-RN frigate.

January 1986

  • Mr. Rahardi Ramelan, Deputy Chairman, Technology Assessment Agency; to see United Kingdom advances in engineering and electronics.

May 1986

  • Professor Zen, Deputy Chairman, Technology Assessment Agency; to discuss seabed resources mapping project with United Kingdom firms and officials.
  • Mr. Anton Lesiangi MP, Head of Parliamentary Committee for Mining and Energy; to visit United Kingdom companies in mining sector.

June 1986

  • Professor Fuad Hassan, Minister for Education and Culture; to study English language training and library services.
  • Mr. Prijono, President for State Mining Corporation; to visit United Kingdom coal mining industry.
  • A party of senior officers visited the British Army equipment exhibition.

July 1986

  • Rear Admiral Basoeki, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Logistics); for talks relating to Indonesia's purchase of ex-Royal Navy frigates.

August 1986

  • Professor Winarno, Ministry of Agriculture; to discuss food processing and food standards.

September 1986

  • Mr. Ramto, Deputy Governor of Jakarta; to see London docklands and light railway. Air Vice Marshall Hartono, Director of Air Defence Headquarters; visit to RAF Lossiemouth.
  • Mr. Angus Ardie, Deputy Chairman, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce; led a party of business men and officials to attend annual meeting of United Kingdom-Indonesian joint working party.
  • A party of senior officers visited the Farnborough air show.

October 1986

  • Lt. General Sanoesi, Head of Indonesian police; to visit New Scotland Yard and view police training facilities.
