Mr. Cohen

asked the Attorney-General when the Director of Public Prosecutions first received from the complaints investigation bureau of the Metropolitan police a report on police officers involving the abuse of access to information contained on police national computer files by an alleged homosexual ring; when he received further reports; and when a decision can be expected.

The Attorney-General

The Director of Public Prosecutions first received a report on the case referred to by the hon. Member from the complaints investment bureau of the Metropolitan police on 23 January 1986. Further reports were received from the police on 28 July, 19 September and 20 October. Papers were forwarded to me on 17 November and I consented to the prosecution of three men for offences under the Official Secrets Act 1911 on 19 November 1986 and 26 November 1986.
