HC Deb 12 December 1986 vol 107 c238W
Dr. Hampson

asked the Prime Minister what, in 1985–86, was the total cost of courses of post-entry training undergone by members of the non-industrial Civil Service; and what proportion by cost of that training was given (a) at the Civil Service college and (b) at other schools, colleges and institutes outside the Civil Service.

The Prime Minister

The total cost of formal post-entry training in the non-industrial Civil Service during this period was £208 million; of this £118 million constituted the salaries, travel and subsistence paid to the trainees, and £90 million the direct cost of the training.

The proportion by total cost which took place at the Civil Service college was 8 per cent, and at sources outside the Civil Service 14 per cent. The remaining 78 per cent. was provided within individual Government Departments.
