§ Mr. John PattenThe register of unused and underused publicly owned land maintained by my right hon. Friend under the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 showed 101,000 acres of such land in England on 30 November 1986. Since the registers were first established in 1981, some 45,000 acres of land have been removed from the register, most of which through being sold or brought back into use by the owner.
