§ Sir William Clarkasked the Prime Minister what steps she proposes to take to remove the present overlap in responsibilities for the safety of gas appliances between the Secretary of State for Employment and the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry.
§ The Prime MinisterI have decided that from today the responsibilities for safety in the construction and design of gas appliances not intended for use at work which are now exercised by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Employment should be transferred to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. These responsibilities include the development of national and European Community standards.
