HC Deb 10 December 1986 vol 107 c183W
53. Mr. Baldry

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps are being taken to protect British copyright industries.

Mr. Pattie

The Government have already announced their proposals for the reform of the United Kingdom copyright law in the White Paper "Intellectual Property and Innovation" (Cmnd. 9712) and intend to legislate when the parliamentary timetable permits.

With regard to protection overseas the Government continue to press upon countries where protection is inadequate the need for comprehensive and enforceable copyright law. The United Kingdom will also be giving its full support to the objective recently agreed by the contracting parties to the GATT that the new round of international trade negotiations should address the need to promote effective and adequate protection of intellectual property rights.
