§ Mr. Raynsfordasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the latest estimate of the number of inmates in Her Majesty's prisons who are suffering from mental illness.
§ Mr. MellorOn 30 September there were 339 inmates in prison custody in England and Wales who had a disorder which, in the opinion of the Medical Officer, was of a nature or degree which would make it appropriate for them to be detained in hospital under the terms of the Mental Health Act 1983.
