§ Mr. StanleyMy Department has received 15 letters calling for the abandonment of the Trident programme and other nuclear weapons since the Reykjavik summit. At Camp David on 15 November the President of the United States reaffirmed the United States' intention to proceed with its strategic modernisation programme, including Trident. He also confirmed his full support for the arrangements made to modernise Britain's independent nuclear deterrent with Trident.
