HC Deb 08 December 1986 vol 107 c86W
Mr. Maclennan

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what progress has been made with siting an over-the-horizon radar system in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

As my right hon. Friend the Member for Bosworth (Sir A. Butler) advised the hon. Member for Houghton and Washington (Mr. Boyes) and the right hon. Member for Western Isles (Mr. Stewart) on 21 December 1984 at column378 and the same right hon. Member on 11 March 1985 at columns 56–57, the United Kingdom and the United States are collaborating in a joint programme of studies aimed at testing the feasibility of siting an over-the-horizon radar system in the United Kingdom. These studies are still continuing, and there are at present no firm plans for implementation.
