§ Dr. McDonaldasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in the Official Report his latest estimate of the total loss to the Bank of England, arising out of its investment in Johnson Matthey Bankers.
§ Mr. Ian StewartThis is a matter for the Bank of England. As I indicated to the hon. Member on 28 November in cols. 581–2, the Bank's best estimate is that the total cost will not exceed £25 million and that this figure could be reduced by further recoveries in respect of the loan book and by the outcome of the claim against the former auditors of JMB.
