HC Deb 05 December 1986 vol 106 c804W
Mr. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is his estimate of the number of aerogenerators of the largest size currently operating which would be required to generate 1,360 MW of electricity.

Mr. David Hunt

The largest aerogenerator currently operating in the United Kingdom is a 300 kW machine on Orkney. A total of 4,534 such machines would be required to generate 1,360 MW.

Elsewhere in the world there is a small number of 3 MW machines and there is a 3-MW machine currently under construction on Orkney. A total of 454 3 MW machines would be required to generate 1,360 MW.
