HC Deb 04 December 1986 vol 106 cc764-5W
Mr. Boyes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what research his Department is carrying out into the outcome of a representative sample of urban development grant-aided projects; which housing projects have been included in the sample, and how these were selected; according to what criteria the outcome of these projects is being evaluated; and when his Department intend to publish the full findings and recommendations of this piece of research.

Mr. John Patten

My Department has commissioned Aston university to research into the performance and impact of the urban development grant programme covering the period September 1982 to June 1985. The researchers are expected to report in two or three months' time. The research is based on a representative sample of projects, including housing projects. The individual projects are not being identified in the research report. The basis of the evaluation of housing projects will include the leverage of private sector investment, improving housing conditions and housing choice, jobs provided, bringing land and buildings into use, and environmental improvement.

Mr. Boyes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list all housing projects for which urban development grant aid has been approved within the last 18 months; and if he will specify for each project (a) any capital receipt obtained by the local authority, (b) the level of grant aid per unit of accommodation provided,
