HC Deb 04 December 1986 vol 106 c774W
Mr. Chris Smith

asked the Paymaster General what is the total number of people subject to special employment and training measures at the latest available date for the Islington, South constituency; and what are the measures and the numbers affected in each case.

Mr. Lee

It is not possible to give a precise total figure because of the various bases on which local information is collated. The number of people participating in the following employment measures and training in the Islington, South constituency on 31 October was:

Number
Community Industry 99
YTS 387
Voluntary Projects Programme 10
Adult Training 179

In addition, in the area covering the boroughs of Hackney, City, Islington, Tower Hamlets, Camden, Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, and Hammersmith and Fulham, which includes the Islington, South constituency, there are 4,954 people on the community programme and 637 people receiving the enterprise allowance. In London and the south-east 4,308 people were participating in the new workers scheme. A further breakdown for these schemes for the Islington, South constituency is available only at disproportionate cost.
