HC Deb 04 December 1986 vol 106 c790W
56. Mr. Cash

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what success there has been in measures to eradicate sheep scab.

Mr. Donald Thompson

Following a record 157 outbreaks of sheep scab in 1983, a concentrated effort has been made to control and ultimately eradicate the disease. This has involved, in particular, compulsory dipping nationally twice a year. The results have been encouraging, with 131 outbreaks in 1984, 74 in 1985 and only 46 so far this year. Complete eradication is attainable only with the continued co-operation of the sheep industry.
