HC Deb 04 December 1986 vol 106 cc791-2W
Mr. Strang

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is his latest estimate of the number of sheep which still have radioactive contamination levels above that acceptable for human consumption and following the Chernobyl accident.

Mr. Jopling

I regret that information is not available in the form requested, but only about 1.5 per cent. of sheep in the United Kingdom remain subject to the restrictions introduced following the Chernobyl accident and our live monitoring of sheep leaving the restricted areas shows that only a proportion of them show radio caesium levels above the acceptable level.
