HC Deb 04 December 1986 vol 106 c789W
53. Mr. Nellist

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is satisfied with the Sea Fish Industry Authority programme for the marketing of British fish.

Mr. Gummer

In my reply to the hon. Member for Greenock and Port Glasgow (Dr. Godman) on 6 November I announced that the possibility of further Government funding for the sea fish industry development programme was under consideration. I am pleased to be able to say that following the recent public expenditure survey discussions, the Government have now agreed to provide a further sum of £4 million towards the cost of this programme over the next two years, up to the end of March 1989. I am confident that this additional funding will enable the authority to build on the considerable steps it has so far taken to improve the promotion and marketing of fish.

We shall be notifying the Commission of this proposed funding, as required by article 93(3) of the European Community treaty.
