HC Deb 03 December 1986 vol 106 cc677-8W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Prime Minister whether the then Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, the right hon. Member for Richmond, Yorks (Mr. Brittan) was aware of the likely contents of the letter from the Solicitor-General power station that started operating before 1970 (a) the date each reactor started operating, (b) the date each reactor attained, or is expected to attain 20-years operating life, (c) the date the nuclear installations inspectorate started, or expects to start, work on the 20-year safety review, (d) the date the nuclear installations inspectorate expects to finish work on the 20-year safety review and (e) the date the nuclear installations inspectorate expects to publish a summary of the 20-year safety review.

Mr. Goodlad

[pursuant to his reply, 17 November 1986, c. 18, and further to the replies 24 June 1985, at c. 296 and 17 November 1986, c. 18]: Her Majesty's nuclear installations inspectorate's work on the CEGB's long-term reviews of Bradwell and Berkley commenced in August 1981. As I told the right hon. Member for Salford, East on 16 June 1986, at column 387, the NII completed work in March 1983 on its assessment of BNFL's long-term reviews of Calder Hall and Chapelcross with the exception of a few issues which require further assessment and discussion. The CEGB has begun its reviews of Hinkley Point A, Trawsfynydd, Sizewell and Dungeness A. The NII will publish its conclusions on all this work in due course.
