§ Mr. Fallonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the revenue cost in 1987–88 and in a full year of raising all the main personal allowances by 5 per cent., 10 per cent., 15 per cent. and 20 per cent. more than indexation; and how many single, married and aged tax units would be taken out of tax by these increases.
§ Mr. Norman LamontThe estimates in the table show the cost of the proposals, and the effect on the numbers of taxpayers, in 1987–88 compared with indexation of 1986–87 allowances by the illustrative increase of 3.25 per cent. in the 1986 autumn statement.
rights in Amersham International, Britoil and Enterprise Oil. The voting rights have not been subsequently amended. Unless they are amended, the voting rights will continue unless and until the special shares themselves are redeemed. Particulars of the terms of the special shares can be found in the Library, where they were placed following the question tabled by the hon. Member for Sedgefield (Mr. Blair), on 26 July 1985, c. 843–44.
Mr. Jacksonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list the companies into which the Government at the time of first privatisation, introduced provisions restricting the proportion of the capital that may be acquired by a single shareholder, or category of shareholders indicating in each case the form that such restrictions took; what information he has as to whether such restrictions have been invoked or applied in practice; and if he will place in the Library details of the provisions setting out the restrictions in each case and for invoking or applying them.
§ Mr. Norman LamontThe companies into which these restrictions were introduced by the Government at privatisation are Amersham International, Britoil, Enterprise Oil, Jaguar, British Telecom, VSEL and British Gas. To my knowledge, none of the restrictions has been invoked or applied in practice. Details are contained in the article of association for each of the companies concerned. Relevant extracts from the articles of the first five of these companies have already been placed in the Library, in response to the question tabled by the hon. Member for Sedgfield (Mr. Blair) on 26 July 1985, at columns 842–43. I am arranging for copies of the relevant sections of the articles of association for VSEL and British Gas to be placed in the Library as soon as possible.
