HC Deb 03 December 1986 vol 106 cc628-9W
Mrs. Beckett

asked the Attorney-General what are the latest figures for the number of appeals to the commissioner for (a) sickness benefit and (b) invalidity benefit; and what were the results of the appeals and references in each category.

The Attorney-General

To the end of November 1986, the relevant figures for this year for England and Wales are as shown in the table. I understand from my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland that the relevant figures for Scotland are also as shown in the table. It is assumed that by "references" are meant appeals remitted to the lower tribunal. The results of those cases before the tribunal are not immediately available and further information will accordingly be provided to the hon. Member as soon as possible.
