HC Deb 03 December 1986 vol 106 c680W
Mr. Frank Cook

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what effect the study by Don Popplewell of the National Radiological Protection Board on plutonium levels in Sellafield workers and Cumbrians has had, or will have, on his policy towards protection from radiation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

The levels of plutonium in Cumbrians that have been reported so far in the NRPB study are substantially below those which would cause concern or suggest the need for a change in policy. The Government will, however, continue to encourage monitoring of doses of radiation actually received by members of the public in west Cumbria, and in other relevant areas, as recommended by Sir Douglas Black, and to study the results with care.
