HC Deb 03 December 1986 vol 106 c684W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what measures he is taking to promote home improvements and repairs in Leicester; and how much money is estimated to be spent during 1987–88 on these purposes.

Mr. Tracey

The Department promotes rehabilitation in Leicester by contributions to improvement grants and enveloping schemes, by housing association grant and through the expertise of the estate action unit. My right hon. Friend also hopes to contribute to the cost of a care and repair agency. It is largely for the city to determine how much will be spent, once it has received its housing investment programme allocation.
