HC Deb 03 December 1986 vol 106 c666W
Mr. Hancock

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what was the value and amount and type of Government equipment sold recently in the Falkland Islands.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

I shall answer shortly.

Mr. Cyril D. Townsend

asked the Secretary of State for Defence when he expects the television service for the Falkland Islands garrison to be available.

Mr. Stanley

I am glad to say that the new taped television service will open on 4 December and will be run by the Services Sound and Vision Corporation (SSVC) from its new broadcasting complex at Mount Pleasant in the Falklands. SSVC will be transmitting for four hours each day a blend of taped current BBC and ITV programmes.

The new service will be a welcome addition to the existing radio broadcasting services that we already provide for members of the Armed Forces serving in the Falkland Islands, especially as it will be in time for Christmas.
