§ Mrs. Clwydasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement about Britain's contributions in 1986–87 to the European Economic Community budget.
§ Mr. BrookeOur net contribution to the Community budget is the main element in our net payments to Community institutions, which are now estimated to be £1,090 million in 1986–87. This is £440 million above the figure published in the last public expenditure White Paper (Cmnd. 9702). The reasons for this were set out in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Southend, East (Mr. Taylor) on 18 November, at column178.
