HC Deb 03 December 1986 vol 106 c648W
27. Mr. Spencer

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the latest position in relation to the proposal to station two drug liaison officers in India; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

As I told my right hon. Friend the Member for Castle Point (Sir B. Braine) on 21 November, the Indian Government have agreed to the postings of the drug liaison officers, who will take up their posts as soon as their personal arrangements have been completed.

78. Mr. Rathbone

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions he has had recently with the Indian Government regarding their refusal to allow two British drug officers to be posted in Delhi and Bombay; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

As I told my right hon. Friend the Member for Castle Point (Sir Bernard Braine) on 21 November, the Indian Government have informed us that the postings of drug liaison officers to Delhi and Bombay can now take place; and they will do so as soon as the officers concerned have completed their personal arrangements. We welcome this development.
