§ Mr. Leightonasked the Paymaster General what information he has about the extent of skill shortages in the London printing industry; and what steps are being taken to remedy them.
§ Mr. Trippier[pursuant to his reply, 1 December 1986, c. 42]: The Government are aware of the demand in the general printing industry in London for those with skills in keyboarding, litho machine printing and planner platemaking, and are helping to meet this demand through the Manpower Services Commission's support for relevant adult training courses in the London area. In addition, considerable support is being given under two-year YTS for schemes which include an element of printing skills. Total support for both adult and youth training in the London area for courses and schemes offering printing skill is over £500,000 in this financial year alone.
