§ Mr. Douglas HoggThe advice to chief officers of police contained in Home Office circular 69/1986 on violence against women provides guidance on operational matters. It is for individual chief officers to act on this advice in the light of local needs. I have asked Her Majesty's inspectors of constabulary to discuss the circular's recommendations with chief constables during their annual force inspections.
